Sentry Squirrels

The job of a Sentry Squirrel is to stake high ground and keep watch on squirrel headquarters as well as recon locations in enemy territories. Once of new batch of Worker Squirrels are promoted to Sentry Squirrels they are immediately sent to Sentry Academy where they learn the basics of Hurling and Surveillance. Since it's impossible for squirrels to take on humans in hand-to-paw combat the squirrels have learned to fight with projectiles, also known as Hurling. As Sentries, squirrels are required to have basic projectile hurling skills should the situation ever arise where they would need to do fight or defend.

Sentry Squirrels spend two weeks at hurling academy learning to lob acorns and other small projectiles with mediocre accuracy, as well as basic sneaking, camouflage, and surveillance. As squirrels are naturally adept at sneaking and camouflaging the bulk of Sentry Academy is spent honing their hurling skills. After their two weeks of training all squirrels are required pass two hurling tests: hurling accuracy and dropping accuracy. In the Hurling accuracy test each squirrel is given 15 acorns and is told to throw them all into a small basket 10 yards away. At least 12 acorns must land in the basket. The dropping accuracy test is similar; the trainees must sucessfully drop at least 12 of 15 acorns straight down into a small basket from a height of 25 yards. These skills develop both horizontal and vertical hurling skills.

Upon successful completion of the hurling tests the trainees are oficially promoted to sentry squirrels. Any trainees that fail one or both tests are forced to repeat Sentry Academy.

There are three types of Sentry squirrels: Guard Sentries, Recon Sentries, and Relay Sentries. Depending on their scores from Sentry Academy each squirrel is assigned as one of the three Sentry classifications.

Guard Sentries

Guard Sentries keep watch in the trees surrounding squirrel headquarters around the world. Their job is to keep an eye on the perimiter of the command post they are assigned to and report any suspicious activities to higher ranked squirrels. They are also authorized to call in Troop Squirrels if necessary. Guard sentries are not encouraged to participate in combat but they are allowed to if necessary.

Keeping as low as possible this Guard Sentry watches for dangers or trespassers.

Depending on the size of a squirrel command post or base there will be anywhere from 10-100 Guard Sentries posted so infiltrating a squirrel base is extremely difficult. Fortunately for humans, Sentry Squirrels have a tendency to become bored with their mostly uneventful jobs and tend to become lazy and apathetic of their surveillance duties, often times leading to sentry squirrels napping and/or daydreaming on the job! Based upon recent research 30% of active Sentry Squirrels are frequent nappers/daydreamers. For more information on lazy squirrels Click Here!

Recon Sentries

The job of a Recon Sentry Squirrel (RSS) is basically the same as that of the Guard Squirrel, only Recon Squirrels are posted in enemy territory for the sole purpose of watching enemy (humans) movement and activity. They do not gather intelligence as that is the job of Spy Squirrels, they merely observe enemy movement.
